Plaintiffs were inpatients at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. During the course of their stay at the center, the female patients were subjected to sexual abuse by the counselors; the people who ran the center provided the patients with drugs and when the patients tried to leave the center, they were confronted by guards at gunpoint. All four plaintiffs claimed psychological injuries.
The defense claimed that the allegations of the plaintiffs were unreliable since they were drug addicts.
The law offices of Winer, Burritt & Scott, LLP, retained investigators who searched the entire country for former patients at the Center who confirmed the plaintiffs’ allegations.
As a result of this case, the alcohol and rehabilitation center completely changed its practices and operations.
RESULTS: Settlement on behalf of plaintiffs for $600,000
