This case involved four women who alleged that their psychologist convinced them that they had been abducted by UFOs. The defendant admitted to this therapy modality but stated that the plaintiffs all went to see him because they already believed that they had been abducted by UFOs.
The law offices of Winer, Burritt & Scott, LLP, was able to establish that this was not true and that the defendant breached the boundaries of therapy by conducting sessions outside his office in which he and his patients would go to the desert to wait for UFOs to appear — charging his patients for this “experience.”
RESULT: Settlement on behalf of plaintiffs for $450,000
