Stephanie J. Powers

Stephanie Powers is an associate attorney at Winer, Burritt, Scott, & Jacobs, LLP, where she focuses on harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, sexual assault, and civil rights violations in the workplace. She brings a strong background in legal research, motion practice, and client advocacy, with prior experience in trial preparation and complex legal analysis. Stephanie is committed to securing justice for her clients and ensuring they receive the compensation they deserve.

Fluent in Spanish and conversational in Portuguese, Stephanie is dedicated to serving diverse communities and empowering survivors of abuse and discrimination. Before joining the firm in December 2024, Stephanie worked as a staff attorney at Kids in Need of Defense, where she represented immigrant children who had survived abuse and neglect. She previously served as an Immigrant Justice Corps Fellow at Immigrant Defenders Law Center, advocating for asylum seekers who had suffered persecution based on their race, gender, and other protected characteristics. In these roles, she developed litigation strategies, drafted appellate briefs, and provided trauma-informed legal representation to survivors of severe harm. Her experience also includes criminal defense work as a student attorney with the Harvard Criminal Justice Institute, where she successfully contested racially biased witness identification and negotiated favorable plea agreements.

Stephanie earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where she was the Policy Team Director for the Harvard Immigration Project and a research assistant in the Immigration Clinic. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Spanish from Gordon College. Her diverse background, including experience as a software engineer before entering the legal field, gives her a unique analytical perspective in litigation.
